Every child has potential.
MindSet supports children and teens who are capable and curious, yet find parts of school unexpectedly hard. We work on the skills underneath learning, so your child can approach school with more clarity, less overwhelm and real confidence.
“Shyla was able to work with our son one on one and had success where others did not.”
Does this sound like your child?
Many of the children we work with are bright and willing. Something underneath is making learning harder than it should be.
- Works hard, but the marks don't reflect the effort
- Knows it at home, then blanks in the test
- Homework turns into a daily battle
- Struggles to get started, or to finish
- Reads the words, but can't say what it was about
- Loses track of instructions, books and deadlines
- Makes "silly mistakes" again and again
- Is starting to say "I'm just not smart"
Marks are the fruit. We work on the roots.
More tuition reteaches the content. But when a child struggles with memory, attention or processing, the content isn't the problem. The way they take it in is.
Rather than treating every challenge as an academic problem, we look at the learner as a whole: how they process information, follow instructions, organise ideas, manage effort and cope with mistakes. Strengthen those roots, and the results grow from there.
This helps us understand not only what feels difficult, but also what makes learning easier for your child.
How we help
Sessions are thoughtfully structured, yet flexible enough to respond to the child in front of us. Most children receive a mix of all three.
Educational Therapy
Strengthening the foundations behind learning. Instead of asking a child to try harder, we look at the skills that may be getting in the way and build practical strategies around them.
Executive Functioning
Building the skills behind getting things done. Individual support for the planning, memory, attention and task management that school quietly expects.
Understanding themselves
Helping learners recognise their strengths, understand what works for them, and use strategies more independently, at school and beyond.
Who we support
Children and adolescents with real potential, facing challenges that affect how they learn.
ADHD and attention
Learners who find it hard to stay focused and to get started on tasks.
Dyslexia and literacy
Students building confidence in reading, writing and processing language.
Processing difficulties
Strengthening the speed and efficiency needed to take in information.
Executive functioning
Developing planning, organisation and the follow through to finish.
Learning challenges
Tailored strategies for students facing their own academic or thinking hurdles.
Bright but stuck
Capable children whose results don't yet match what they understand.
No diagnosis? That's okay.
We focus on your child's needs and skills, whether or not there is a diagnosis. MindSet does not diagnose ADHD, dyslexia or other conditions, and does not provide diagnostic testing.
Tutoring or educational therapy?
Both can help. The difference is where they look.
| Question | Tutoring | Educational therapy |
|---|---|---|
| Main focus | Understanding a school subject and practising its content | How the child learns, and which underlying skills make tasks hard |
| Typical goal | Finish the assignment, prepare for the exam | Stronger foundations, self understanding and independent use of strategies |
| A writing task | Helps the student complete this particular piece | Also works on generating ideas, sequencing thoughts, remembering instructions, getting started and checking work |
| A reading passage | Explains the answers | Looks at decoding, vocabulary, remembering what was read and organising the answer |
Good tutoring can be personal and build confidence too, and the two can work side by side. The choice depends on whether a learner needs help with subject knowledge, broader learning skills, or both.
How it works
Every family starts with a free conversation. From there, support is shaped around your child.
Initial conversation
A free call with you to understand your child's strengths, challenges and learning history.
Informal screening
Observation sessions show how your child processes information and responds to different tasks.
Personal roadmap
A plan that targets the specific skills your child needs to develop.
Weekly sessions
Consistent Educational Therapy and Executive Functioning support, in a warm setting.
Growing independence
As skills strengthen, we celebrate progress and move towards learning independence.
What happens in a session
MindSet uses NILD Level 1 Educational Therapy techniques within structured, individual sessions. Activities are chosen and adapted to each learner, then linked back to everyday schoolwork.
- Rhythmic Writing
- Large, rhythmic movements at the board, said aloud and paired with mental maths, to build handwriting, attention and coordination.
- Gray Matter
- Sound and spelling patterns anchored to memorable words, so reading and spelling become more systematic.
- Dictation and Copy
- Listening to a sentence, holding it in memory, writing it and proofreading it, to build attention to detail and paragraph sense.
- Buzzer
- Working out a word letter by letter from buzzed sounds, to strengthen listening, sequencing and spelling.
- Math Block
- Quick mental maths with strategies explained out loud, to build number sense and flexible thinking.
Hello, I'm Shyla.
I'm the founder of MindSet, a Certified Educational Therapist trained in NILD Educational Therapy (Level 1, USA), and a Psychology graduate from the University of British Columbia. My work is rooted in the belief that when a child struggles with learning, the answer is not always to work harder, but to discover how they learn best.
I work with children and young people who may find attention, literacy, processing, working memory, organisation, planning and other demands of learning difficult. Rather than focusing only on the difficulty itself, I look at the skills behind the struggle and develop personalised strategies to strengthen them.
My approach is warm, structured and individual, combining Educational Therapy with Executive Functioning support to help learners build practical skills, recognise their strengths and better understand themselves as learners. My goal is to help each student move towards greater confidence, independence and a genuine belief in their own ability to succeed.

What parents say
“Shyla was very educated in strategizing ways to motivate and engage my daughter who struggles with attention and focus. In the beginning, my daughter was not a fan of educational therapy, but very quickly Shyla had her engaged and absorbing information quickly!”
“Shyla gave my daughter strategies on how to learn and focus better. We saw a quick uptake on things she was behind on at school. My daughter always spoke highly about her sessions with Shyla and I would definitely recommend her to another family! Thank you for everything.”
“Shyla was able to work with our son one on one and had success where others did not. Our son’s lack of attention and focus makes it hard for him to see academic success. He was not happy about special sessions, but within a few he showed progress and was proud of what he accomplished. We recommend Shyla for any child who requires assistance.”
Working with your child's school
A child grows with the support of a team. Families, teachers and learning support staff each see a different part of the day. Connecting those views makes support more consistent across home, school and sessions.
Your child
Understanding their academic needs, strengths and everyday challenges, so strategies complement classroom learning.
Teachers
Sharing relevant observations with teachers and learning support teams, and discussing practical strategies that may help.
You
Helping you understand learning and executive functioning challenges, and how to support your child's strategies at home.
School collaboration happens only with parent or guardian consent, and depends on the school's agreement, availability and policies, including confidentiality.
Grounded in research
Every strategy is chosen with care, based on educational research and tailored to the learner.
NILD Educational Therapy
Our sessions draw on the NILD Educational Therapy framework and its research on how children process information and respond to learning demands.
About NILDReading and literacy
Literacy strategies are informed by systematic reviews of how reading develops, focusing on the skills behind comprehension and processing.
Literacy research summaryExecutive function
Planning, organisation and focus strategies are informed by the Qiu et al. (2023) meta analysis on supporting executive function.

How do I know if my child needs educational therapy?
If your child is struggling with organisation, time management or steady school performance despite their potential, educational therapy can give them the personalised tools they need. If you're unsure, the free parent call is a good place to start.
What is the difference between tutoring and educational therapy?
Tutoring usually helps a student understand a school subject, practise curriculum content, complete assignments or prepare for an exam. Educational therapy looks more closely at how the student learns and which underlying skills may be making those tasks difficult.
At MindSet, we explore the skills involved in reading, writing and learning, alongside attention, working memory, processing, planning and organisation. For example, a child who finds a comprehension passage difficult may need support with decoding, understanding vocabulary, remembering what they have read or organising their answer.
Families are part of the process. We share observations and practical ways to reinforce strategies at home, and work with educators where appropriate.
Do I need a diagnosis first?
No. We focus on your child's needs and skills, whether or not there is a diagnosis. MindSet does not diagnose conditions or provide diagnostic testing.
How long does a session last?
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Are sessions in person or online?
Both. In person sessions take place in New Delhi, and online sessions are available for families anywhere in the world.
Do you coordinate with my child's school?
Yes. With parent or guardian consent, we can work with your child's teachers and school counsellors to share relevant observations and practical strategies. Any coordination depends on the school's agreement, availability and policies, including confidentiality.
